Course Overview: 

This course is designed to provide healthcare professionals and aspiring phlebotomists with the knowledge and skills required for performing phlebotomy procedures. Upon completing the Basic Phlebotomy Techniques course, participants will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate proficiency in performing venipuncture and capillary blood collection using appropriate techniques and equipment.
  2. Identify and utilize suitable veins for blood sampling based on patient conditions, including special populations like pediatric, geriatric, and pregnant patients.
  3. Apply infection control and safety protocols in accordance with Indian healthcare guidelines, including proper use of PPE, disposal of sharps, and handling bloodborne pathogens.
  4. Label, handle, and transport blood samples in compliance with Indian regulatory standards, minimizing errors such as hemolysis or contamination.
  5. Communicate effectively with patients, addressing their concerns with sensitivity, especially considering diverse cultural contexts in India.
  6. Understand the ethical and legal responsibilities of phlebotomists in the Indian healthcare setting, including obtaining informed consent and ensuring patient confidentiality.
  7. Manage difficult venipuncture scenarios, such as those involving obese or elderly patients, by selecting appropriate strategies to ensure patient comfort and successful blood collection.
  8. Demonstrate the ability to handle adverse reactions, like fainting or patient anxiety, and implement emergency procedures when necessary.
